Research Interests

Evaluation of interventions to prevent hepatitis C, HIV and overdose in high-risk populations, particularly among people who inject drugs and men who have sex with men
Estimating the incidence of HIV and hepatitis C and the contribution of various mechanisms of transmission
Understanding the role of structural factors like stigma and violence in driving transmission of HIV among high-risk populations
Methodologies include working with large observational cohorts and longitudinal methods, mathematical modelling and evidence synthesis
Examples of recent projects include: evaluating the impact of overdose prevention centres, estimating hepatitis C incidence among people who inject drugs at national, regional and global levels, estimating the role of unsafe medical injections in driving HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C transmission in low- and middle-income countries and estimating the incidence of HIV and of risk factors among people who inject drugs in South Africa
