Job description
The laboratory of Dr. Arielle Elkrief, MD, Co-Director of the CHUM Microbiome Centre, is searching for a talented and motivated Research Associate or Senior Postdoctoral Fellow to join her laboratory. The candidate will focus on conducting wet-lab experiments and coordinating laboratory activities. The candidate will be working closely with other basic immunologists, computational biologists, students, and researchers.
The lab focuses on unraveling the link between the immune response and novel microbiome-based therapies for people with lung cancer and melanoma treated with immunotherapy. This includes investigating the role of fecal microbial transplantation, probiotics, prebiotics, and diet in prospective clinical patient trials, with a focus on integrating translational correlative approaches using biospecimens from patients enrolled on these trials and focus on murine pre-clinical experiments. The specific role of the candidate will be to perform mouse experiments, pre-clinical model development, flow cytometry on human and murine samples, and other experiments on biological specimens. The successful candidate will be capable of executing sophisticated wet lab experiments (from animal models to high-dimensional flow cytometry) to integrating findings from microbiome studies into actionable therapeutic insights to benefit patients.
Responsibilities
- Ability to conceive, design, lead, and conduct pre-clinical experiments including mouse experiments, germ-free experiments, pre-clinical model development, flow cytometry, tissue culture
- Assist with grant-writing and manuscript writing
- Implement and follow the best practices in sample and data management
Qualifications
- A PhD in immunology, cancer immunology or related field
- Extensive experience with murine experiments and pre-clinical syngeneic tumor models
- Able to perform flow cytometry, qPCR
- Strong problem-solving abilities and resilience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members and external stakeholders
- Ability to multitask and lead analyses for multiple projects
- Experience with germ-free animal facilities is an asset
