CRCHUM is the stage for a very active, stimulating and always busy scientific life. Numerous scientific events, conferences and activities take place here every week, featuring internationally renowned researchers and lecturers.
Scientific Days
A key event for the organization’s scientific outreach since 2010, CRCHUM’s Scientific Day is built around the prestigious conferences given by researchers of exceptional renown.
Between 2013 and 2023, the research centre had the exceptional pleasure of welcoming:
- several Nobel prize winners: Andrew Z. Fire, Jules Hoffmann, Dr. Robert Lefkowitz and Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe;
- renowned scientists: Dr. Dan H. Barouch, Dr. Pierre Corvol, Fabiola Gianotti, Dr. Axel Kahn and Mona Nemer.
Depending on the theme, a symposium is organized with oral presentations by researchers at the CRCHUM and other research centres.
Each year, more than 350 people attend this event.
Participating in CRCHUM’s Scientific Day is a unique opportunity to meet inspiring figures in health research.

Conference for students, fellows and residents at CRCHUM
This annual event promotes sharing knowledge within the CHUM Research Centre community through more than one hundred oral presentations and scientific posters. At the end of the conference, around ten presenters are awarded with a scholarship.
Research projects presented include basic research, population health research and clinical research. The diversity of themes proposed illustrates the close ties that exist between education, research, prevention and treatment of diseases at the CHUM.
In 2016, a signature activity at the conference was introduced: a prestigious lecture given by one of the ten scientists who received the “Quebec Science Discovery of the Year” award. The student committee is responsible for selecting this person.
In recent years, an activity like “my 3-minute thesis,” has allowed participants to develop their skills in making science popular.
On average, nearly 250 people participate in this conference each year.

Philanthropy: supporting bold research and the next generation
On a daily basis, the CRCHUM also receives the support of the CHUM Foundation.
This contributes to training the next generation of high-level scientists and passing on the knowledge unique to the centre. It also helps finance high technology equipment.
Over the past decade, philanthropic activities have emerged and enabled the support of bold and unconventional research programs, which lead to great discoveries.
The great CRCHUM laboratory
A concept created in 2010 by Quebec host and producer Julie Snyder, The Great CRCHUM Laboratory is a charity event with a unique atmosphere, shining its spotlight on researchers at the CHUM Research Centre. By highlighting the importance of research conducted at the facility, the evening brings together several representatives from the CRCHUM business and scientific communities under the auspices of a Nobel prize winner.
Between 2013 and 2015, the date of the last edition of the event, the amount of funds collected exceeded 1.5 million dollars.
CRCHUM Challenge
Organized in association with the Montreal Beneva Marathon, the CRCHUM Challenge is a walking and running event which has taken place every year since 2010.
This charitable sports event raises funds for research, including scholarships for students, professional training grants and funding for research activities.
Between 2013 and 2022, the year of the last CRCHUM Challenge, participants in the CRCHUM Challenge (around 200 per year) raised nearly $700,000 dollars.

A bridge to the community
Open house days
The goal of this event is to recruit new students, new students and postdoctoral fellows with high potential in a very competitive Montreal environment where university centres and departments covet the best and the brightest.
During this day, multimedia presentations and laboratory visits are proposed. Over a period of three years, more than 200 participants have been able to meet the research teams at the centre and discover the particularities of a research environment in an ultra-specialized hospital setting.

HumaniSciences Evenings
A joint initiative of the CHUM Research Centre and the Centre of Excellence for Patient and Public Partnership (CEPPP), the series of HumaniSciences discussion evenings, co-hosted by a patient and a researcher, offers a space for discussion on science accessible to everyone. They create a bridge between research and healthcare.
Launched in April 2019, the first event was entitled “Let’s talk about HIV.” Since then, 10 other evenings have been held, with an average of 75 attendees.
