The CHUM ranked among the top 10 research hospitals in Canada
For the first time, the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) has been ranked among the top 10 research hospitals in Canada, thanks to the excellence of its Research Centre.
The CHUM is ranked 10th nationally and 2nd provincially in Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals 2024 by Research Infosource, a company specializing in research and development information.
The other institutions in the top five in terms of total research expenditure are as follows: the University Health Network ($539 million), the Hospital for Sick Children ($307.3 million), the McGill University Health Centre ($258.2 million), the B.C. Provincial Health Services Authority ($177.7 million) and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority ($170.2 million).
“This success reminds us of the importance of our commitment to health research, the strength of our creativity and the dedication of the members of our community,” says Dr. Vincent Poitout, Director of Research and Innovation at the CHUM. “It is a collective achievement of which we can all be very proud!”
The CHUM and its Research Centre also ranked 2nd in Canada in the category of Hospital Research Spending Growth (grants, contracts, contributions from external sources) with $132.3 million—an increase of more than 38% on the previous year. This is the first time that the CHUM joined the “closed club” of $100 million in research income.
In all, more than a quarter of the institutions (12) in the 2024 ranking are from Quebec.
