Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3)
The CRCHUM’s biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) core facility is one of the best scientific facilities of this type in Canada. It was designed to provide an extremely safe research and training environment.
It allows research teams to safely handle and store infectious biological agents belonging to risk group 3.
The BSL-3 is accredited by the Public Health Agency of Canada and fully meets the physical and operational requirements of the Canadian Biosafety Standard.
Our facility ensures user safety, while preventing the spread of pathogens to adjacent laboratories and the environment.
Our institutional permit for infectious biological agents of risk group 3 was amended in 2020 to include the SARS-CoV-2 virus and bacteria of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex.
