Radiochemistry and cyclotron
Equipment
Our platform has specialized equipment for the production and analysis of radioactive isotope-labelled molecules, all under conditions that guarantee workers’ safety.
The CRCHUM Radiochemistry and Cyclotron core facility has an IBA Cyclone® 18/9 MeV cyclotron, a particle accelerator that is used to produce radioactive isotopes for PET (positron emission tomography) imaging. The isotopes currently produced are carbon 11, fluorine 18, nitrogen 13, and gallium 68.
We also use the following spaces and instruments:
Isotope | Chemical form | Target reaction |
11C | CO2 | 14N(p,α)11C |
CH4 | ||
13N | NH3 | 16O(p,α)13N |
18F | F- | 18O(p,n)18F |
Our cyclotron could also produce the following isotopes: 15O2; 124I et 64Cu.
