The cannabis plant has been consumed by all kinds of people since ancient times. It is often said that cannabis gives this or that effect, that cannabis has the capacity to modulate this or that physiological parameter, that cannabis can be used in this or that context, that cannabis is good, that cannabis is bad. In truth, cannabis is not a thing. This recently evolved plant represents a complex assembly of a panoply of organic compounds with diverse biochemical characteristics. It is in fact a rich polypharmacological product. How can we better understand its modes of action and its effects on human health? Part of the answer lies in the development of rigorous clinical studies.

Job description

The Didier Jutras-Aswad research laboratory is looking for a person wishing to carry out a postdoctoral internship in order to tackle this complex question of the effects of cannabis on humans. The chosen person will have the opportunity to be involved in clinical studies evaluating the physiological and psychological effects associated with the consumption of non-therapeutic cannabis according to the different forms, modalities of use and constituents, on the general population and among populations at risk. This is a stimulating and dynamic scientific challenge that allows us to address several complementary questions that will create new knowledge supporting the development of public health initiatives and guiding the development of guidelines to inform people who want to consume cannabis and better protect at-risk groups from harmful effects.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze datasets from human administration studies, including various cannabis products, such as CBD by inhalation.
  • Participate in the design and development of new clinical studies.
  • Supervise people in graduate studies in the laboratory and collaborate with them on various scientific productions related to current projects.
Qualifications
  • Postgraduate degree in biomedical sciences, psychiatry, neuroscience, psychology, or other relevant discipline;
  • Motivation and experience in clinical research in the field of psychiatry, addiction or a related field;
  • Strong interest in working with populations of individuals who use substances and/or live with mental health disorders and addiction;
  • Ability to seek competitive scholarships;
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis methods;
  • Good knowledge of French (an asset) and English;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
Competitives benefits
  • Full-time position, 35 hours per week, daytime Monday to Friday
  • The salary will be that recommended by the establishment and proportionate to experience
  • 2-year contract, renewable
  • Start date: as soon as possible
  • Dynamic research environment: Work in an educational scientific and professional framework, offering synergistic solutions to research challenges
  • Collaboration and support: A strong team spirit enabling high-quality research projects to be carried out. The laboratory promotes scientific production, providing the tools necessary to publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at high-level conferences
