Job description 
The Research Center of the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CRCHUM) and the Département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie of the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) are seeking applicants for an assistant or associate research professor position in the field of emerging viruses with a particular emphasis on the molecular and cellular determinants of viral infection, replication, transmission and pathogenesis.
The fundamental or translational research program in virology must be integrated in a collaborative manner with that of the fundamental researchers of the CRCHUM's Immunopathology theme. The candidate will play a central role in complementing the research strengths of the Département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie, the Faculty of Medicine and the CRCHUM.
The candidate will have the status of regular researcher at the CRCHUM, a rich and varied research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and a stimulating scientific environment, and professor-researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of UdeM. Competitive recruitment conditions, with salary support and start-up research funds, will also be offered depending on the candidate's experience.


Responsibilities 
As part of his/her function, the professor-researcher will have the following responsibilities:
•    Develop an innovative and competitive research program in the field of emerging viruses, in a coherent/complementary manner with the research activities already in place at the CRCHUM (https://www.chumontreal.qc.ca/crchum/recherche/axes-recherche/immunopat…)
•    Be involved in teaching virology at all degree levels and supervising students in the research programs of the Département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie of the Faculty of Medicine. According to the language policy of the University de Montréal*, professors who do not speak French when they start in their new position will benefit from a support program for learning the French language and must be sufficiently competent to teach in French after a period of three years
•    Contribute to the scientific and academic life of the CRCHUM and the university department
•    Participate in outreach activities of the CRCHUM and the Faculty of Medicine, in particular by disseminating its research results.

Qualifications   
•    Hold a doctorate in science (Ph.D.) and/or medical degree (M.D.) or equivalent degree, as well as sufficient postdoctoral experience to establish an independent and innovative research program in basic and/or translational research
•    Develop a cutting-edge, world-class basic research program funded by national and/or international organizations in emerging viruses. Expertise in preclinical models (small animals) will be considered an asset
•    Have a competitive record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and have excellent research potential, in order to obtain future grants from recognized organizations.
•    Have a solid academic record, excellent interdisciplinary collaboration skills and good teaching skills.
