In this conference Dr. Raynault will discuss the following topics:

  • How does science influence public health policy-making in Quebec?
  • How did the COVID-19 pandemic change these interactions and what lessons can be learned for the transfer of scientific knowledge.
  • The speaker will draw on her experience as a researcher and public health physician during the pandemic to bring these questions to the table.

About Dr. Raynault

Dr. Marie-France Raynault started her career as a family physician in an underprivileged neighborhood of Montreal. Specializing in preventive medicine and public health, she worked at the University Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine in Lausanne, Switzerland. Upon returning to Quebec, she became Director of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Université de Montréal.

Now this department’s professor emeritus, she heads the public health department of the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal and the Léa-Roback Research Centre on Social Inequalities in Health in Montreal. Her practice as a medical specialist is centered on public health interventions that can reduce social inequalities in health. Her research focuses on vulnerable clienteles and poverty, social inequalities in health and public policy.

From April 2020 to November 2022, she has been working with the Quebec National Director of Public Health at the MSSS on COVID issues and is now his strategic medical advisor. She was elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2007.
