General description of the project
The development of a blood test for cancer detection
When a tumor cell dies, its contents are released into the circulation and can serve as a biomarker for cancer. Liquid biopsies therefore open a new era in cancer diagnosis, by making it possible to detect tumors from a simple blood sample. In this context, our laboratory is developing molecular and computational technologies to improve the sensitivity and specificity of tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection. Via the CRCHUM institutional biobanks, our team has access to a large cohort of patients suffering from various cancers (ovarian, head and neck, bladder, lung, melanoma). Thus, this research project will allow the selected student to develop expertise in next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, machine learning, oncology and genomics.
