More than $5.4M from CIHR for 8 CRCHUM teams

As part of the Spring 2023 Project Grant competition launched by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), 8 research teams from the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) were awarded more than $5.4 million in grants.

Guy Cloutier — Research theme: imaging and engineering / Project Grant awarded for five years ($726,750)

Inflammatory phenotype, senescence, and viscoelasticity imaging of macrophages in HIV

Dr. Martin Girard — Research theme: imaging and engineering and Dr. Michaël Chassé — Research theme: Innovation hub) / Project Grant awarded for one year and a half ($401,625)

Effects of an Open Lung protective EXTubation strategy compared to a conventional extubation strategy on postoperative pulmonary complications after general anesthesia as part of a comprehensive lung protective ventilation strategy: a multicenter pilot randomized controlled trial (OLEXT-3 study)

Anita Koushik and Laurent Azoulay (Université McGill) — Research theme: Innovation hub / Project Grant awarded for two years and a half ($306,000)

The impact of intrauterine device use on ovarian cancer risk

Nicole Leclerc — Research theme: Neuroscience / Project Grant awarded for five years ($902,700)

Microtubule alterations in progressive supranuclear palsy

Alex Parker — Research theme: Neuroscience / Project Grant awarded for five years ($703,800)

Investigating neuroprotective strategies in genetic models of neurodegeneration

Marie-Pascale Pomey, Marie-Andrée Côté (patient) et Hermann Nabi (Centre de recherche du CHU de Québec) — Research theme: Innovation hub / Project Grant awarded for four years and a half ($1,365,525)

Continuum PAROLE-Onco : Vers le développement de compétences en autosoins pour améliorer l’expérience de la vie après les traitements aigus de cancer du sein

Marc Prentki — Research theme: Cardiometabolic/Project Grant awarded for five years ($1,017,450)

In total, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research is funding 371 researchers for an investment of $325 million.
